Michel Nader, 3rd Dan – Amherst, Nova Scotia, Canada
Michel Nader began training at the Amherst Shotokan Karate Academy in September of 2008.
His parents enrolled him in karate to help boost his confidence and to get him active in the community.
“Ever since the first week I started I’ve loved karate, and I’ve never stopped.”
Michel is currently a Sandan. He was tested in June 2017. He earned his 2nd Dan in June 2014 and his 1st Dan in 2012. Each of his black belt tests were conducted by Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai.
“I’ve trained mostly at the Amherst Karate Academy with the whole maritime karate community under instruction of Shihan David and Janice Pyke.”
During the summers, Michel travels to Lebanon. While there, he trains under Sensei Ghaith Al Rahi and Sensei Hala Khoury. Also on occasion, the Mount Allison University student trains with Sensei Norm Robitza at the Mount Allison Karate Club.
Michel has competed regularly in the Maritime Regional Tournament since he has been a brown belt. The events he has partaken in are individual kata, and all team events.
“I have 3 gold, 3 silver, and 1 bronze medal at this level. I also won a bronze medal for team bunkai at Nationals in 2013.”
Michel is currently a student at Mount Allison University studying biology and physics. He has also been doing research in Medical Physics and molecular diagnostics.
When not studying or doing karate, Michel can be found playing chess and watching movies.
“There have been so many great moments throughout my training that make me very proud and happy to be a member of this great community. It’s almost impossible to just pick one. I’m feel very thankful to have karate be a part of my life and who I am.”
