Moses Family Guyanese Karate Superstars

On April 30, 2021, the Moses sisters from Wowetta, Guyana graded from white to brown belt. On Friday, July 23, the GKC sisters, Rose and Pauline Moses, and 13-year-old Anusha Jodhan from 3 Ryu Karate Club were promoted from the third kyu to the first dan black belt.

The Sisters trained privately with Shihan John Fernandes, 7th dan, for 2 years prior to their 1st grading on April 30.

Another Moses joins the duo, making it possible to field an Indigenous women’s kata team for next year’s World Cup scheduled for Guyana. Their niece, 14-year-old Latisha Moses, who has been trained by her three uncles – black belts: Silas, 37, Ernie, 29, and Courtney, 24.

Latisha moved from white to blue belt at her first grading conducted by Shuseki Shihan Frank Woon-A-Tai, M.S., 9th Dan. To receive such honours from the master himself is a privilege.

Shihan Guy Bourgon promoted

The IKD is pleased to announce that Shihan Guy Bourgon of Quebec, Canada has been promoted to the International Karate Daigaku (IKD) Eighth Degree Black Belt.

He now joins the ranks of IKD Kodansha (High level Black Belts).

In addition to training, Shihan Bourgon spent a great deal of his time developing JKA, ISKF and IKD Karate in his Province and in Canada. He excelled in Technical and Administration matters and has made significant contributions to the high level of karate in Quebec and Canada. Congratulations!

His Dan Diploma will be presented by IKD Vice President, Bryan Mattias, 8th Dan of Quebec.

Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to Fuku Shuseki Shihan Maureen Woon-A-Tai who celebrates her birthday on June 22.

She shares the day with late ISKF Shihan Teruyuki Okazaki. Master Okazaki passed away last year from Covid-19. He would have been 90 years old today.
