Shihan Clive Hinds, HF

Clive Hinds, 7th Dan, first started Martial Arts as a sixteen year old in Canada after having migrated from Kingston Jamaica, in the early 1960’s. It was a prime opportunity to meet new friends and socialize with the new country he was in.
In 1981, he joined Shotokan Karate, in Winnipeg Manitoba, under the instruction of Sensei Phillip Dingman. Further training and instruction was also given by Senseis Yukata Yaguchi, Takashina, Mori, Nakayama, Nishiyama, Katsumata, Osaka, and Mikami respectively.
Karate became a natural way of life for this full time businessman, and assisted with his life long struggle with asthma.
Clive was an active board member of ISKF Karate Organization for 25 years, and Chairman of ISKF Manitoba. He has also been a board member of WKF Manitoba, as secretary for five (5) years. After receiving his 3rd Dan, Clive opened his own dojo in 1996, in Winnipeg, Manitoba called “Winnipeg Budokai”. The Dojo has successfully grown over the years, boasting many accomplished black belts to assist in the day to day training. Winnipeg Budokai students showcase their craft each year in multiple demonstrations in the city and most notably the Folklarama Multicultural Events Of Manitoba. In 2000, he was a competitor in the Senior Division, and was a finalist in the Kata Competition. Clive regularly attended the ISKF camps in Denver and Philadelphia, and received his Instructor Training and Examiners Certification level B through ISKF. He is currently Chief Instructor and Examiner for IKD Manitoba since its inception in 2011.
Clive has attained his triple A ranks with the IKD Organization and has been accepted on the IKD Shihan Kai Board.
Now retired from his business in the food industry in 2012, it has been opened the door to start a new business with his wife in Property Development. Clive also holds the position of Deputy Mayor in the town of Stonewall, Manitoba, the town he has called home for the last Forty Eight (48) years.
