Shihan Marc Cordice

Marc Cordice, 7th Dan, began training at age 13 in 1968, in his homeland of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In 1970, he became a member of the Japan Karate Association (JKA) and International Amateur Karate Federation (IAKF).

Shihan Cordice was a founding member, and former president & chief instructor of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Karate Association (SVGKA). He was also instrumental in helping organize the SLSKA in 1993, and was appointed chief instructor by Master Okazaki. Assisting him at that time was David Clark (IKD president) and Patrick Edwards (present SLSKA chief instructor).

In 1997, Shihan Cordice and his family migrated to the USA settling in Tacoma, Washington. That same year, Shihan Cordice established JKA of Washington and the Pacific Lutheran University (PLU) Shotokan Karate Club affiliated with JKA-ISKF Northwest Region. He was the second ranking JKA karateka in the Northwest region until his resignation in 2010.

In 2011, upon joining the IKD, Shihan Cordice was appointed as the IKD-USA director by Master Woon-A-Tai. At present, he has two dojos under his supervision in Washington, the South Sound Shotokan Karate-do, and PLU Shotokan Karate Club.

Shihan Cordice is a graduate of the IKD Instructor Program and holds the designation of International Karate Daigaku A-Class Instructor, A-Class Judge, and A-Class Examiner.

Shihan Cordice was a longtime student of master Teruyuki Okazaki and also studied and is deeply influenced with the teachings of JKA great masters Nakayama, Nishiyama, Mikami, Yaguchi, Takeshina, Osaka, and Koyama to name a few. As an instructor, he has produced hundreds of black belts and many karate champions at regional and international levels. He also judges at many regional, national, and international karate championships. He enjoys researching martial arts and its philosophy, which helps him to be innovative and creative in the way he teaches the art of self-defense. He is open to discussing karate with his students and fellow karate-kas sharing his knowledge and experience, thus advancing our understanding of karate-do.
