Shihan Marcel Lussier

Shihan Marcel Lussier, HF

Marcel Lussier, 7th Dan, started Karate in 1981 under the instruction of Sensei Del Phillips in Prince Albert, SK.

He received Shodan from Master Koyama on May 11, 1984, and Nidan to Rokudan from Masters Okazaki and Yaguchi. Shihan Marcel was promoted to Shichidan with the IKD on July 6, 2012 by Master Woon-A-Tai.

He opened his present Dojo, the St. Louis Shotokan Karate Federation in 1990 which is now the headquarters for the province of Saskatchewan. He is fortunate to have his dojo in the basement of his home which gave him the opportunity to train daily for his Dan examinations and the many tournaments he entered.

He was promoted to chief instructor of Saskatchewan in 1999. He is an International A level instructor, examiner, and referee.

Marcel was an avid tournament competitor for over 26 years, competing in numerous provincial, western Canadian, national, international, and World Championships. His last competition was at the ISKF World Shoto Cup in Toronto in 2008 where he was awarded the senior grand champion by placing 1st in both kata and kumite, and also performed a remarkable demonstration. Coming from a small community of only 450 people, he is proud to have accomplished so much in his karate career, and hopes to continue growing and learning with the International Karate Daigaku.

Marcel has traveled across Canada, to many places in the United States, and made two trips to Japan for training and world championships.

In addition to the ISKF masters, Marcel also trained under Masters Nakayama, Nishiyama, Kanazawa, Enoeda, Abe, Ueki, Tanaka, Osaka, Shina, Tagomori, Takahashi, Ochi, Woon-A-Tai, Katsumata, Miura, Schmidt, and many other non-Japanese masters. His goal now is to promote Karate on an international level.

Marcel has worked as a Correctional Officer at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary since 1987, both in the multi-level and maximum security prison, and because of his Karate experience he was also a member of the Institutional Emergency Response Team for many years. He married his high school sweetheart Susie Bruce in 1986 and has 3 beautiful girls, Chelsea, Shaylene, and Kylie, all three girls are brown belts and Susie is a shodan.

My main goal continues to be of service to young people throughout the world by helping them find direction in life, helping to keep them off drugs, and to break the cycle of crime and violence through the discipline of karate training.
